Jessy Razafimandimby is a Swiss and Malagasy (MDG) artist living and working in Geneva (CH). Formally, his work takes references from a bygone world, including interior design, architecture, jazz music, and French cinema of the 1960s and 1970s. His drawings and paintings convey baroque imagery traversed by organic forms in which chimeric figures appear. Recently, Razafimandimby became interested in the history of fashion and music, while exploring the possibilities of the concept of staging. Mostly active as a painter and performer, Razafimandimby works at the intersection of the two mediums, whereby his body enacts movements based on his visual and formal work, while his drawings, paintings seem to trap and fix motions on paper and fabrics.
Recent and upcoming exhibitions include: Observer of the Techniques, Wallriss, Fri- bourg (2019); On the Temporary Balcony Behind The Dirty Windows, 1.1, Basel. Curated by Deborah Joyce Holman (2019); Droit de Visite de Digestion, Arsenic Contemporary Performing Arts Center, Lausanne. Curated by Elise Lammer (2019); Lemaniana, Contemporary Art Center, Geneva (2021). In 2020 and 2021 Razafimandimby is shortlisted for the Kiefer Hablitzel Göhner Art Prize.
