This site-specific Sati Dérive walking audio piece is a collaboration between writer and director Johanna Matruka and sound designer Jaakko Autio. The locale of the audio promenade is the Teurastamo area and its environments in Helsinki.
Sati Dérive is based on the psychogeographic unplanned tour (dérive) of the Situationist International movement, and the Buddhist conception of sati. The audio promenade unites a classic European avant-garde tradition with Eastern spiritual practice.
The ambitious aim of Johanna and Jaakko is for Sati Dérive to take each participant to a unique trek, which does not end even when the piece is finished and everyday life resumes.
Each listener chooses the duration of the piece for themselves. The piece is open June 12 through August 31, 2021.
